How Much Does a Website Cost?

20 May, 2026

Pricing a website is not an easy thing. Many times, those interested in building a website ask us and insist on learning how much it costs without discussing together what exactly they need.

Having already spent quite a few years in this space and with quite a few websites in our portfolio to date, we still cannot answer this question with a single number, but we answer that we cannot give a quote before we learn in detail what the site's specifications will be.

Below we will explain the reasons why it is not easy to give a standard price.

Website Cost

1. Service and not product.

The design and development of a website should be considered as a service and not as a ready-made product. Unfortunately, it is difficult to change the general idea that prevails, that is, that websites are not merchandise, a ready-to-use program that can be built by anyone. To build a functional website, work, collaboration, and effort from more than one specialized individual are required. If someone sees website construction as a service, it will help them better understand why it is not easy to be priced with a one-time price.

2. Building a website involves a complex design.

The many details that need to be clarified are an integral part of website development and this greatly affects the final pricing. For example, the client may want to incorporate a specific functionality into their website, something that for them may seem simple but in reality is difficult to implement and requires many additional work hours for its construction. That's why clients must discuss with us and answer a special questionnaire so that we understand as best as possible what exactly they need and thus minimize the chances of such misunderstandings that lead to a change in the final price.

3. Financial offers are subjective.

The construction of a website can be completed in many different ways. Go out and ask for a quote for building a website from ten different companies and you will get ten different prices. Each company takes its own factors into account to price a job.

4. Success criteria differ.

The definition of a successful website as a final product differs from person to person. For example, a Web Designer may consider that a successful website must be visually impressive and that is enough, while a Web Developer may consider it better for the website to have been created using secure and well-written code regardless of its appearance. An online marketing specialist may argue that what a website really needs is to be simple and optimized for search engines (SEO optimized). There are many opinions on this subject without us being able to consider them right or wrong.
The real success of your website comes from achieving the business goals you set, and to achieve this you may need the support of all the above.

5. There are different ways of pricing.

There are two ways you can be priced for building a website: either with a fixed offer or with hourly compensation. For a fixed charge, you will be priced a specific amount, e.g. €1000 for all work, while with hourly compensation you will pay someone, for example, €20 per hour for as long as it takes to complete the project. Depending on which way you agree to pay, the cost will also vary.

6. The Internet development industry has very few standards.

Web Development is a fairly new industry and unfortunately there are not many standards. For example, there are dozens of programming languages that can be used to program a website, many content management systems (CMS), many functional systems, and many types of hosting. For the same final result, different construction and support methods can be chosen, which causes variations in determining final prices.

There is no specific answer to the question, "How much does a website cost?" but understanding the nature of this service will help you in the future if you decide to build your own website.
